A 3D unsplit-advection volume tracking algorithm with planarity-preserving interface reconstruction

چکیده
A new volume tracking method is introduced for tracking interfaces in three-dimensional (3D) geometries partitioned with orthogonal hexahedra. The method approximates interface geometries as piecewise planar, and advects volumes in a single unsplit step using fully multidimensional fluxes that have their definition based in backward-trajectory remapping. By using multidimensional unsplit advection, the expense of high-order interface reconstruction is incurred only once per timestep. Simple departures from strict backward-trajectory remapping remove any need for consideration of volume computations involving shapes consisting of non-planar ruled surfaces. Secondorder accuracy of the method is demonstrated even for vigorous 3D deformations. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Interface reconstruction with least-square t and split Eulerian–Lagrangian advection
Two new volume-ofuid (VOF) reconstruction algorithms, which are based on a least-square t technique, are presented. Their performance is tested for several standard shapes and is compared to a few other VOF=PLIC reconstruction techniques, showing in general a better convergence rate. The geometric nature of Lagrangian and Eulerian split advection algorithms is investigated in detail and a new m...
متن کاملMulti-material interface reconstruction on generalized polyhedral meshes
We describe multi-material (more than two materials) interface reconstruction methods for 3D mesh of generalized polyhedrons. Basic information used in interface reconstruction is volume fractions of each material in mixed cell containing several materials. All methods subdivide mixed cell into set of pure non-overlapping sub-cells each containing just one material that have reference volume fr...
متن کاملVolume-tracking Methods for Interfacial Flow Calculations
A new algorithm for volume tracking which is based on the concept of flux-corrected transport (FCT) is introduced. It is applicable to incompressible 2D flow simulations on finite volume and difference meshes. The method requires no explicit interface reconstruction, is direction-split and can be extended to 3D and orthogonal curvilinear meshes in a straightforward manner. A comparison of the n...

The PLIC/SN method that combines the second-order volume tracking method (PLIC-VOF) with the equation of surface normal (SN) vector was recently proposed (M. Sun, “Volume Tracking of Subgrid Particles,” International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Vol. 66, No. 12, 2011, pp. 1530-1554). The method is able to track the motion of a subgrid particle, but the accuracy is not as good as exp...
متن کاملA Conservative Three-Dimensional EulerianMethod for Coupled Solid–FluidShock Capturing
A new method is presented for the explicit Eulerian finite difference computation of shock capturing problems involving multiple resolved material phases in three dimensions. We solve separately for each phase the equations of fluid dynamics or solid mechanics, using as interface boundary conditions artificially extended representations of the individual phases. For fluids we use a new 3D spati...
